Video | “Facebook” Facelift From The CEO

Saturday, July 26th, 2008

During the last few days there have been quite a few videos published regarding the new Facebook. Being infants there we were definitely interested but apparently not so much as the veteran users. The opinions are flying wildly and there are very strong thumbs up and thumbs down, as you’ll see.

Most of these opinions were based only on the look and maneuverability (including tabs) of the Facebook platform, but we wondered if there was more to it. I decided to seek out some information of value, and discovered some pretty exciting up-coming features with this video from zdnet.

Mark Zuckerberg launches Facebook Connect
New changes to the Facebook platform

Pretty cool, but since the video had the CNET stamp on it…yes, you guessed it; there had to be more information. This video is also displayed there, as well as an additional video with comments from other platform developers. Take a look over at news.cnet

Not only will Facebook connect with Digg and CitySearch, but also Twitter, StumbleUpon, CBS.com, CNET, and many more. Now all you have to do is figure it all out. Certainly the veterans out here will do just that…pronto.

If the new Facebook design hasn’t been presented to you yet, and you’re in a hurry, it’s available by typing www.new.facebook.com into your browser. If you don’t care for it are you stuck? No, according to Rafe Needleman here along with screen shots and very strong opinions either way.

Hilarious Video About “My Internet Business”

Monday, July 14th, 2008

A friend of mine sent me this little toy for fun. For a split second we took it seriously and then it just split our sides! You can personalize it and send it to others…friends and family (or foe?). Trouble is, you have to watch it first. I couldn’t resist putting up a post and sharing this just as he did. Enjoy…

“Starbucks” is closing 600 stores

Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008

With the news broadcasting in another room this morning I heard just a snippet of this surprising (to me) information. The first thing that came to mind was the fact that “Starbucks” has become an institution of sorts to millions of people as consumers, but more importantly, how many jobs would this cost?

I decided that I would get the full story tonight at katu, the news channel I was listening to. Sure enough…it’s true. We all hear of lay-offs and downsizing, so why did this stand out to me? Because of who it is which suggests the enormity of the problem.

Personally, I have never visited one of their establishments, always thinking of them as being Seattle, so news of them would not normally catch my attention. It was the what now that did. This is scary stuff.

The economy has got to be on almost everyone’s mind, but this is an extra jolt. Countless families have been in the lay-off situation, mine included, so the empathy for these people goes without saying today.

The almighty Starbucks? If they are doing the cut-backs, who else is next, and what can we do about this? When will this ever stop?
Rest of the story… from the Associated Press
